Obituary for Evelyn Louise Gushaty (Fraser)

Evelyn Gushaty
March 13th, 1938 - June 11th, 2021

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Evelyn Gushaty on June 11, 2021 after a brief battle with cancer.

Born on March 13, 1938, Evelyn was a life long Albertan, living in De Winton, Okotoks, and Calgary areas. She had a great love and respect for her prairie home.

Evelyn lived a life filled with passion and creativity, delving head first into each and every pursuit she was driven by and had a vision for. There were many. She was both a school and music teacher for many years, a florist, an artist, a musician, a golfer, a small business owner, a farmer’s market vendor, a caterer and overall phenomenal cook, a crafter, a jewelry maker, and card maker. She had both a strong entrepreneurial and volunteer spirit. She served on many boards and committees throughout her lifetime, including at the time of her death. Evelyn planned and executed many activities and events throughout the years for community and golf associations, including her most recent place of residence at Somerset Legacy Estates where she invested a lot of time and energy intending to bring about memorable and fun experiences for those that were part of that community. When she had a vision for an event or project, she saw it through with fierce persistence often to the point of exhaustion, but this was her way. She did not do things in half measures.

Evelyn was a strong, innovative, and determined force of a person. She made an impact wherever she went. She fought proudly to the end. She will be dearly missed.

Evelyn is predeceased by her parents Lloyd and Bernice Fraser and her younger sister Margaret Thiebaud. She is survived by her children Wesley (Aileen), Wanda (Richard), and Jennifer (Dave); grandchildren Nicole (Ryan), Travis (Paige), Jordan, Jeffrey, Jackson, and Georgia; and great-grandchildren Quinn, Maeve, Greyson, and Oliver and her elder brother, Doug Fraser. Evelyn loved her family very much. She was proud of the accomplishments of her children and grandchildren, and was thrilled to meet two of her great-grandchildren.

Evelyn has requested that there be no funeral or memorial service with her passing, as she had a living celebration for her 80th birthday which she cherished dearly. Please remember her well. One of Evelyn’s last plans for fundraising in the coming year was to create and sell cards in which she would donate all sales to Youth Singers of Calgary, a non-profit charitable organization close to her heart. If you feel so inclined, a donation to Youth Singers on her behalf would be greatly appreciated.
