Duffy and I grew up in the same small village in NB. I knew his family but I didn't get to know him until I moved to Calgary. He was kind and generous to a fault and he lived life to the fullest. Duffy didn't smile all the time, but that is how I remember him - smiling.

The old life is no more & our new 'normal' is a life without you. The Sunday phone calls have ended....but I will hold each one of them close to my heart. I find peace in all the good when we were kids and you refused to eat my mud pies after mom served us corn on the cob in the playhouse! Remember when I trampled your train set because you wouldn't let me play with you and the boys? And the cat food sandwiches I made you and you loved....til you found out what you were eating!! But you got me back by chasing me with that awful snake and I locked myself upstairs in mom & dad's room and dad had to climb up on the roof and thru the window to open the door!
SO many times in the last two months, I wanted to tell you what a wonderful brother and friend you were. But the tears were always too close and then I waited to long.
I love knowing how much you loved Mikayla and her girls. I could always hear the pride in your voice when you talked of them. I know you will watch over them all and be there with them through their sadness and celebrations. And Jean has been so strong. I wish her peace and happiness as she carries on from here
In our "new normal", we all still have memories to make and loved ones to love.
Until we meet again, I will keep that recipe for mud pies close....just in case!
I love you, Bob

Meeting Duffy. I was born eight days before Jean, our family and her family were close, we all lived in the same small town, and Jean and I have kept in touch with each other for over seventy years.
I attended Jean’s 70th birthday party a few years ago and because of the beautiful evening all the guys were sitting outside having a couple of pops and discussing the Theory of Relativity and other stuff. I had arrived late and joined the guys outside and sat down quietly. Talk turned to Jean and her family and Duffy was giving the order of birth of Jean and her four sisters with Bev in third place. I told him he just about got it right except that Bev was second. Duffy said he though he was correct because he has known them all for 30 years. I told Duffy that Bev was second and that I have known Bev for over 68 years. Duffy looked at me and said “Who the heck are you anyway?”. I said “I’m Bill”. Duffy jumped up from his chair and came running over to me. Duffy extended his hand and said “Hi, I’m Duffy. I’ve been hearing about you for 30 years and now I get to meet you.” I’d heard lots about Duffy too so it was nice to finally meet him. Duffy kept us entertained throughout the evening.

I remember Bob when we were in our early teen years. We spent a lot of time together listening to music and just hanging out. Many times we went out to New Denmark to visit the girls. To young to drive we often walked home or hick kicked . My condolences to his family. May God bless you. From an old friend from Plaster Rock now living in Sussex N.B. God Bless you Bob.
